I was trying to bring more structure to my life, and I tried a lot of things. I am someone who forgets important details, and honestly, I felt like I had wasted years of my life because of it. Recently, I found myself addicted to my phone. I would try fighting the habit, succeed for a few days, and then fall right back into it.
I cycled through countless to-do apps, but they only ever worked for a short period. As a creative person, those apps felt too rigid, generic, and industrial. I used to be fond of journaling—it gave me peace of mind—but I stopped doing it once the phone addiction took over.
So, I decided to build something for myself. Unfog.life started simply as a journaling app where I could write and track my mood. But as I used it, I figured: why not add a To-Do functionality? And because I kept forgetting the important things, I added a Routine feature to build consistency.
Then I realized I have a lot of long-term aspirations that I easily lose sight of. So, I added a Bucketlist to give me daily reminders of my goals. But aspirations alone don't stop bad habits. Being an extremely independent person, I had no one to stop me or even remind me when I was slipping. That’s how the Shouldn'ts section came about. Finally, I built the Urge Counter to act as a much-needed buffer against my impulsive decisions.
Honestly, this app has helped me organize my life tremendously. Has it made my life perfect? No, that would be a lie. I still fall back into old habits sometimes. But the core mechanic of the app—receiving a daily reminder that pairs a random Shouldn't item with a random Bucketlist item—grounds me. It reminds me of my dream life while simultaneously keeping me aware of the bad habit I am trying to quit.
This app can't physically stop me from making bad decisions. But with my active effort, this passive daily nudge has changed everything.
I am no one special. I am just an average person. And that is the main beauty of it: because I am like millions of people out there, I wholeheartedly believe that if Unfog.life can help me, it can help millions of others.
This is the story of Unfog.life.
Thank you.
